Jonas Brothers: Before Fame
The Jonas Brothers consists of three powerhouse personalities: 19-year old Kevin Jonas, 14-year old Nicholas Jonas, and 17-year old Joseph Jonas. While music has always been part of the Jonas Brothers’ lives, fame has not. Kevin, Nicholas, and Joseph grew up in an especially musical family in New Jersey. With musicians for parents, the Jonas Brothers inevitably developed an interest for music. Singing along with the piano was a common form of family time, but the Jonas Brothers each soon developed their own artistic personalities.
Kevin Jonas was fascinated by the guitar and taught himself how to play, and now Kevin Jonas plays the guitar and sings back-up vocals in the group. Singing has always been Nicholas Jonas’ passion, and he and Joseph Jonas shares lead vocals. Joseph Jonas had aspirations of becoming a comedian, but he “… was always attached to music and loved listening to different kinds… especially rock.”
Jonas Brothers: Budding Stars
Before becoming a band, the Jonas Brothers appeared in numerous commercials for companies including LEGOS, Clorox, and Burger King. However, the Jonas Brothers soon realized their passion lay in the music making. The Jonas Brothers were signed on the spot after an amazing group audition for Columbia Records, and the Jonas Brothers could finally pursue their dreams. As the Jonas Brothers began writing songs for their first album, the Jonas Brothers felt that it was “the most natural thing we could be doing.” The Jonas Brothers’ inspiration for their songs came directly from personal experience and varied from romantic interests to accomplishing their dreams.
Jonas Brothers: It’s About Time
“The album is meant to get people up and have fun and raises their energy,” says Joseph regarding It’s About Time. Prior to the album’s release, the Jonas Brothers toured throughout 2005 with Kelly Clarkson, Aly & AJ, the Backstreet Boys, to name a few. Unfortunately, the release of It’s About Time was pushed back several times and finally had a limited release of only 50,000 on August 8, 2006. Meanwhile, the Jonas Brothers’ first single “Mandy” was being shown on MTV and peaked at No. 4. Another of the Jonas Brothers’ songs, “Time for Me to Fly,” was featured on the Aquamarine soundtrack. Undeniably, the Jonas Brothers became a widely acclaimed boy band, and their newfound fame led to the Jonas Brothers’ signing with another record company, Hollywood Records, in 2007.
Jonas Brothers: In the Spotlight
After signing with a new label, the Jonas Brothers released their second album Jonas Brothers on August 7, 2007. Within a week, the album had skyrocketed up the Billboard Hot 200 charts and peaked at No. 5. Additionally, the Jonas Brothers had released two singles with music videos, “Hold On” and “SOS,” around the same time. “SOS” turned out to be one of the Jonas Brothers’ biggest hits after taking over the No. 1 spot on Radio Disney Top 30 countdown for six consecutive weeks. The single also became the Jonas Brothers’ first song to reach the Top 20 on the Billboard Top 100 ranking.
Following the success of “SOS,” the Jonas Brothers were undeniably a boy band to be reckoned with. The Jonas Brothers’ success on the musical charts brought in a slew of invitations onto televisions shows such as Hannah Montana and Miss Teen USA. Primetime TV shows such as the Teen Choice Awards and American Music Awards also recruited the Jonas Brothers to perform their music live for America. As 2007 drew to an end, the Jonas Brothers prepared for their Look Me in The Eye Tour, but first ended the year with a bang as the Jonas Brothers put on a spectacular performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream
The Jonas Brothers have been touring across the world after years of compiling and producing their music. The Jonas Brothers’ Look Me in the Eye Tour ended on March 22, 2008, but Kevin, Nicholas, and Joseph Jonas were soon back on the road again with Avril Lavigne in her Boys Like Girls tour. In addition to touring, the Jonas Brothers found time in their busy schedules to film their reality show, Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream, for the Disney Channel.
