Nick Jonas: The Beginning
Nick Jonas was born Nicholas Jerry Jonas in Dallas, Texas, on September 16, 1992 to parents Denise and Kevin Jonas Sr., a former pastor. Despite Nick Jonas being born in Texas, the Jonas family planted roots in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Nick Jonas was the youngest member of the Jonas family until brother Frankie was born on September 28, 2000. At 6 years old, Nick Jonas was discovered while singing at a local hair salon. This discovery opened Broadway’s doors to young Nick Jonas.
In 2000, Nick Jonas starred as Tiny Tim in the Broadway production of A Christmas Carol. Broadway kept calling on Nick Jonas; in 2001, Nick Jonas appeared as Little Jake in the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun, also starring Reba McEntire in the title role. In 2002, Nick played Chip in Beauty and the Beast and Gavroche in the 2003 Broadway production of Les Misérables.
Nick Jonas: Goes Solo
Nick Jonas’ father Kevin Sr. penned the lyrics to “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)" in 2002. Nick Jonas recorded the song along with his Beauty and the Beast cast mates for Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4, the "Equity Fights AIDS" album. Eventually a copy of “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)” found its way to record-company executives, and Nick Jonas was signed to Columbia Records in 2004. Nick Jonas had recorded his self-titled debut album for Columbia but was only given a limited release, despite the singles “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)” and “Dear God” becoming staples on Christian radio.
Nick Jonas: Band of Brothers
In 2005, Nick Jonas and his older brothers Joe and Kevin Jr. wrote and performed the song “Please Be Mine.” After hearing the song, Columbia Records signed all three Jonas Brothers to a recording deal. That same year, Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Despite his illness, Nick and the Jonas Brothers spent the rest of 2005 on tour with Pop veterans Kelly Clarkson, the Backstreet Boys and the Cheetah Girls, helping to sell thousands of Jonas Brothers tickets to eager teen pop fans. In 2006, the Jonas Brothers released their debut album It’s About Time, featuring the songs “Year 3000” and “Mandy.”
Nick Jonas: Hollywood Success
In 2007, The Jonas Brothers signed a recording deal with Hollywood records who released their self-titled second album. The album featured the popular hit songs “SOS” and “Hold On.” Nick Jonas and the Jonas Brothers also appeared on the Disney TV show Hannah Montana, performing the song “We Got the Party” with Disney star Miley Cyrus. That same year, the Jonas Brothers embarked on a sell-out US tour. With Jonas Brothers-mania in full swing, fans eagerly bought Jonas Brothers tickets to witness the trio up close and personal
Nick Jonas: A Little Bit Longer
While recording the Jonas Brothers’ third album, Nick Jonas wrote the deeply personal lyrics to “A Little Bit Longer.” The song was inspired by Nick Jonas’ struggle with Type 1 diabetes. In 2008, Nick Jonas became a spokesman for Bayer Diabetes Care to encourage children to properly manage their diabetes.
In 2008, the Jonas Brothers released their third album A Little Bit Longer, featuring the singles “Burnin’ Up” and “Tonight.” The Jonas Brothers embarked on another successful US tour.
