The Killers History

The Killers

After first finding indie-rock success in the UK, Las Vegas natives The Killers stumbled upon major success at home.

The Killers: Blush Response
Alternative-rock group The Killers formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2002, after lead singer Brandon Flowers parted ways with his band Blush Response in 2001. Brandon Flowers refused to move with the rest of his band mates to Los Angeles, California. Opting to stay in Las Vegas, Brandon Flowers soon met up with guitarist Dave Keuning after answering his advertisement in the Las Vegas Sun. Soon Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning recruited bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. to join a new group called The Killers.

The Killers: Las Vegas to Britain
The partnership between all four members of the Killers produced a multitude of songs and allowed the Killers to gain a following in their hometown of Las Vegas. The Killers soon won the interest of a Warner Brothers record label representative. While Warner Brothers did not sign the Killers, the representative gave The Killers’ demo to British independent label Lizard King, who expressed interest in signing The Killers.

The Killers: Causing a Hot Fuss
The Killers signed to Lizard King in 2003 and began recording their debut album. The album called Hot Fuss was released on June 7, 2004, and peaked at No. 1 in the UK and Australia. By the end of 2004, Hot Fuss had peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart. Hot Fuss sold over 5 million copies worldwide and received five Grammy Award nominations including Best Rock Album.

The album’s first single, “Somebody Told Me,” was released in March 2004 in the UK and in August 2004 in the U.S. “Somebody Told Me” slowly climbed the charts in both England and America but eventually ranked at No. 3 both on the UK singles chart and the Billboard Modern Rock chart. Hot Fuss scored the Killers a second Top 10 hit with “Mr. Brightside.”

The Killers: Hot Tour
Las Vegas rockers The Killers had a busy 2004 when they embarked on their own headlining tour in support of Hot Fuss. Fans quickly bought out The Killers tickets in many of the small club tour dates. Those lucky fans with the Killers tickets to the band’s intimate club gigs heard the popular Killers singles “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me” and “"All These Things That I've Done.” The Killers closed out 2004 by opening for influential indie rockers The Pixies on their 2004 North American reunion tour. Fans helped sell out many of the Pixies’ tour dates by purchasing thousands of Killers tickets for the concert tour.

The Killers: Sam’s Town
Alternative rockers The Killers returned in 2006 with their second album Sam’s Town. Taking inspiration from legendary performers Tom Petty, U2, and Bruce Springsteen, The Killers embarked on a new musical direction for Sam’s Town. Instead of funky dance hits, Sam’s Town takes the Killers on a road trip to more serious, Americana themes and lyrics.

Sam’s Town’s first single “When You Were Young” gave The Killers its first No. 1 single on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. Sam’s Town debuted at No. 1 in the UK and at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The album has sold over 4 million copies, nearly as successful as its predecessor Hot Fuss and had fans counting down the days until The Killers tickets would go on sale for their next concert tour.

The Killers: Day & Age
The Killers released their third album Day & Age on November 24, 2008. The album’s first single “Human” mashes both folk and new-wave musical styles. “Human” was a Top 10 hit in Canada, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, the UK and the U.S. “Human” peaked at No. 1 on the Norwegian Singles chart. The Killers performed both “Human” and the next single “Spaceman” on the American TV show Saturday Night Live.

The Killers will embark on a winter North American tour in 2009 in support of Day & Age. Fans with the Killers tickets will see the Las Vegas showmen perform hits old and new from “Mr. Brightside” to “Human” and beyond! With the Killers tickets, fans can watch Brandon Flowers, Mark Stoermer, Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and Dave Keuning unleash their well-crafted folk, dance-pop sound in a city near you.
