Ray of Light Lyrics:
Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
Faster than the speeding light she's flying
Trying to remember where it all began
She's got herself a little piece of heaven
Waiting for the time when Earth shall be as one
Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light
And I feel
Quicker than a ray of light
Then gone for
Someone else shall be there
Through the endless years
She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe
And I feel
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
Quicker than a ray of light she's flying
Quicker than a ray of light I'm flying
Ray of Light: Background
Lyrics for “Ray of Light” were written by Madonna, William Orbit, Clive Muldoon, Dave Curtis and Christine Leach. “Ray of Light” was the second single from Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light. The song was based on “Sepheryn” by Clive Muldoon and Dave Curtis. Producer William Orbit had originally re-arranged the song for singer Christine Leach before giving the song to Madonna in 1998. Madonna’s album Ray of Light took the Material Girl’s dance pop into a more electronic and techno direction. Nowhere is that more evident than on the single “Ray of Light.”
Ray of Light: Success
“Ray of Light” peaked at No. 1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart and at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Madonna’s “Ray of Light” single peaked in the Top 10 in Canada, Australia, Finland, Japan and the UK charts. The “Ray of Light” single sold over 500,000 copies in the US and over 200,000 copies in the UK. The music video for “Ray of Light” features Madonna singing and dancing in front of sped-up time-lapsed photographs of people in cities around the world living their daily lives. Eventually the video finds Madonna in a Los Angeles nightclub, grooving on a colorful dance floor. The “Ray of Light” music video won Best Short Form Music Video at the Grammy Awards in 1999.
