New Kids on the Block  New Kids on the Block

Former New Kids on the Block member Jordan Knight found pop-music success, earning three solo Top 40 singles.

Jordan Knight: Beginnings
Jordan Knight was born on May 17, 1970, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Jordan Knight and his older brother Jonathan Knight were childhood friends of Donnie Wahlberg. In 1984, when Donnie Wahlberg was chosen to lead music producer Maurice Starr’s next boy band, Donnie Wahlberg insisted that friends then 14-year-old Jordan Knight, 16-year-old Jonathan Knight and 15-year-old Danny Wood be a part of the new group. When 12-year-old Joey McIntyre joined the group – then called Nynuk – New Kids on the Block’s lineup was complete.

Jordan Knight: “New” Success
As a part of New Kids on the Block, Jordan Knight became well-known for his distinct falsetto. After many years of hard work, Jordan Knight and New Kids on the Block finally achieved international success with NKOTB’s second album Hangin’ Tough. Jordan Knight and New Kids on the Block scored a string of hits with “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)” and “You Got It (The Right Stuff).” Suddenly Jordan Knight and New Kids on the Block were overnight successes, selling millions of dollars worth of NKOTB merchandise including New Kids on the Block CDs, T-shirts, and plenty of New Kids on the Block tickets to their 1990 world tour.

Jordan Knight and New Kids on the Block continued releasing hit albums including 1991’s Step By Step and 1994’s Face the Music. NKOTB fans eagerly bought New Kids on the Block tickets for the group’s final 1994 tour in order to hear New Kids on the Block songs “Tonight” and “Step By Step.” New Kids on the Block parted ways after the sell-out world tour, leaving fans with New Kids on the Block tickets heartbroken.

Jordan Knight: Solo Success
Due to the heightened popularity of pop acts ‘N sync, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees, Jordan Knight decided to try his hand at a comeback album. In 1999, Jordan Knight released his self-titled debut album via Interscope Records. Jordan Knight achieved a Top 10 hit with the song “Give It to You.” On the heels of the single’s success, Jordan Knight peaked in the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 and sold over 500,000 copies in the first year of its release. Jordan Knight was nominated for Best Dance Video at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards and won Best Male Pop Album at the Aspire Awards.

Jordan Knight released his third studio album Love Songs in 2006. The album features Jordan Knight’s second Top 20 hit song “Where is your Heart Tonight” and the Top 25 hit duet with teen pop queen Debbie Gibson “Say Goodbye.” Love Songs also features covers of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper,” Foreigner’s “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” Phil Collins’ “One More Night,” Billy Joel’s “She’s Got a Way” and the Cars classic song “Drive.”
