Song for the Lonely: Background
Released in 2002 off of Cher’s 25th album Living Proof, “Song for the Lonely” became another pop/rock dance hit for the ageless singer/actress Cher. The lyrics were penned by Paul Barry and Steve Torch, who both worked on Cher’s hit song “Believe,” along with Mark Taylor, who co-wrote Cher songs like “Strong Enough,” “All or Nothing,” and “Dov'è L'Amore.” Cher dedicated “Song for the Lonely” to the courageous people of New York, including fire fighters and police, among others.

Song for the Lonely: Success
Cher’s “Song for the Lonely” was a hit in the U.S., ascending to Top 40 status on almost every U.S. chart. The single sold nearly 1 million records in the U.S. alone. Fans who didn’t have Cher tickets could hear “Song for the Lonely” in clubs across the globe as both the single and supporting music video were a club staple. The music video featured Cher strolling down the streets of New York City as the setting of the video changes from 1800s to 1900s to present day.
