Set to be the biggest indoor concert Festival ever, the first-annual iHeartRadio Music Festival boasts the top bands and artists in the world.
iHeartRadio Festival Overview
Much like every other aspect of the recording industry, the internet has forever-changed the nature of radio. Since 2008, the iHeartRadio service has brought a new prestige to the internet radio format, presenting the best artists in every genre of music in a streaming form. iHeartRadio has grown in popularity every year and has helped introduce international artists like Jessie J. to the American public. Now, with the loyalty of artists, promoters, and fans everywhere, iHeartRadio will bring its most famous supporters to the stage for the first time.
Spanning two cool Las Vegas nights, the first-annual iHeartRadio Music Festival debuts with one of the top concert billings ever assembled. The weekend of September 23-24 will see a swath of talent and stardom hit the stage of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. From Country to R&B and every style in-between, the lineup of the iHeartRadio Music Festival features a listing of living pop culture icons and multi-platinum stars. Fame and showmanship will even take the stage between bands thanks to emcee Ryan Seacrest.
iHeartRadio Festival: Coldplay
With a long-awaited new album percolating and a series of festival dates scheduled, Coldplay is back in the headlines. One of the most popular bands in the world, many believed that Coldplay had performed its last tour in 2010. After taking a small hiatus, Chris Martin and his British rockers quickly put these troubles behind them and got the itch to tour again. As headliners for the first day of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, Coldplay will set a mark that all the bands on the second day will try to match.
With strong collection of new material for their up-coming studio album in their setlist, Coldplay will have some surprises for the iHeartRadio crowd in addition to their favorites like "When I Ruled the World" and career-making earworm "Yellow." In fact, Coldplay has had no qualms about playing this new material live, and have performed half a dozen fresh songs at recent festival shows. Latest singles "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" and "Us Against the World" seem to be two personal favorites of Coldplay.
iHeartRadio: Alicia Keys
What Coldplay brings to the iHeartRadio Music Festival in international fame and melodic hits, Alicia Keys matches with sex appeal, multi-octave vocals, and passion. The R&B songstress married and welcomed a child in 2010, and has stayed out of the public eye for some time. The iHeartRadio Music Festival will be the perfect way for Alicia Keys to return and the thousands in attendance should make for a glorious "welcome back" party.
iHearRadio: John Mayer & BEP
The Black Eyed Peas and John Mayer would headline any other concert, but at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, they will have to be content with filling-out the middle of the card. The Black Eyed Peas have had a banner year in 2011, with gigs at the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals. But before the Black Eyed Peas can belt out party favorites like "I Gotta Feeling" and Meet Me Halfway," hirsute rocker John Mayer will warm-up the crowd. Like Alicia Keys, John Mayer has not played live for some time and his appearance at iHeartRadio will be a special treat for all his fans.
iHeartRadio: Day One Lineup
The first band to take the iHeartRadio Music Festival stage will be the legendary Jane's Addiction. After co-headlining the final Nine Inch Nails tour and leading Houston's massive Buzzfest, Jane's Addiction has captured a new generation of fans. While the Alternative gods set things up, rising R&B star Bruno Mars and Country diva Carrie Underwood will play their sets. The starting-three of Jane's Addiction, Bruno Mars, and Carrie Underwood exemplify to litany of styles and stardom that the iHeartRadio Music Festival was created to celebrate.
iHeartRadio: Lady Gaga
Equal parts Prince, Madonna, and avant-garde artist, Lady Gaga has gone from the eccentric opening-act of Britney Spears in 2009, to the biggest Pop icon on earth. As a master of music and fame, it is no surprise that Lady Gaga was chosen to headline the second day of the iHeartRadio Festival. Having crossed the world with tour-after-tour in the past year, Lady Gaga has had the time and practice to prepare her greatest live masterpiece yet.
iHeartRadio: Idol Judges
Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson will not be the only American Idol alumni to play the iHeartRadio Music Festival. CurrentIdol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will each perform a full set as well. Jennifer Lopez has not played live since a 2008-2009 tour with former husband Marc Anthony, and men everywhere are clamoring to get a chance to see the luscious Latin crooner. Steven Tyler on the other hand is making a rare solo appearance without his band Aerosmith, but fans can expect classic hits like "Walk This Way" and "Dream On."
iHeartRadio: Gone Country
Outside of Lady Gaga and Coldplay, no other artist in the iHeartRadio Music Festival lineup can boast as many fans as Kenny Chesney. Known for filling stadiums singlehandedly thanks to his charisma, energy, and classic songs, Kenny Chesney may actually be playing to a smaller audience than he is used to. Still, it will be a once in a lifetime chance to see Kenny Chesney share a bill with not only Lady Gaga, but fellow Country chart-toppers Rascal Flatts as well. The juxtaposition of hearing "Poker Face," "What Hurts the Most," and "Living in Fast Forward" performed live on the same night should prove priceless to fans in itself.
iHeartRadio: Day Two Lineup
Like Jane's Addiction on Day One, another set of Alternative pioneers will open the second day of the iHeartRadio Music Festival. The newly-formed Sublime with Rome, a revived lineup of the classic band Sublime, will play in front of its best crowd to-date since its resurrection. House Music legend David Guetta follows-up, with Kelly Clarkson making her 2011 debut next. Fresh from her tour with Britney Spears, young starlet Nicki Minaj will sandwich herself between Rascal Flatts and Kenny Chesney, ensuring that the iHeartRadio Music Festival's dedication to musical diversity is not disrupted by back-to-back Country artists.
iHeartRadio: Special Guests
It has been confirmed that both Sting and Usher will make an appearance on Day Two of the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Which artists they will join on stage for a special performance is not known at this time, but fans with iHeartRadio Music Festival tickets can expect the two megastars to have a surprise or two up their sleeves. Due to the sheer volume of star-power, it is easy to hazard a guess that more special guest stars and a few impromptu duets are in the cards for this one-of-a-kind music experience.
iHeartRadio: Jay-Z Announced
The newest member to the growing iHeartRadio Music Festival lineup is Rap icon/producer Jay-Z. Taking a break from his "Watch the Throne" tour with Kanye West, Jay-Z will co-headline the opening day of iHeartRadio with Coldplay. As the most powerful man in the Rap game, it would be no surprise if Jay-Z gets a few more stars added to the lineup before all is said and done.
