The Canadian band made quick strides and went from small-town band to the biggest Alternative Rock group on the planet.

Nickelback: Kroegers’ Biographies
Growing up around Calgary, brothers Chad Kroeger and Mike Kroeger spent their youth getting into smalltime trouble with the law and other such activities. Music eventually entered their lives and gave the Kroeger brothers a positive influence to build around. Cousin Brandon Kroeger joined them as well to serve as a drummer. The group chose the name “Nickelback”, which was inspired from Mike Kroeger’s job at a coffee house. Younger brother Chad Kroeger became the lead singer for Nickelback while Mike Kroeger played the bass. The Kroeger brothers would be the only consistent members of Nickelback and would someday become bona fide rockstars.

Nickelback: Fly
Nickelback moved to Vancouver to find a bigger audience and quickly made their name in clubs and bars. The growing Post-Grunge movement was alive and well in Vancouver, and it had a dramatic effect on the band. Debut Nickelback single “Fly” was a small radio hit in Canada and helped Nickelback tickets sell well in the small venues but did not chart on the national charts. However, due to their constant touring and the underground success of Nickelback’s first album Curb, the band began to pick up steam.

Getting a music video for “Fly” was a big step in Nickelback’s career and raised their exposure to fans outside of Canada. Eventually Nickelback was signed to American label Roadrunner Records, which would launch a new generation of musicians in the Rock genre ranging from Slipknot to Staind. Nickelback: Leader of Men
As the worldwide music scene began to embrace the musical forms of Nu-Metal and Post-Grunge, Nickelback found themselves at the top of the wave thanks to their album The State and single “Leader of Men”. At this time Nickelback had a heavier sound than they do in the present, and they appealed to a smaller fan base. “Leader of Men” changed this and began to draw in mainstream audiences that were fans of bands like Fuel. Nickelback: How You Remind Me
2001 album Silver Side Up would rocket Nickelback to the top of the music world in record of time. Single “How You Remind Me” and its music video became instant hits on the radio and television respectively. Nickelback: The Long Road

Released in 2003, The Long Road was another platinum hit for Nickelback packed with a slew of hit songs. The haunting music video for single “Someday” made it one of the biggest hit songs in the Nickelback’s young career and pushed The Long Road to triple-platinum status. Nickelback also began a transition lyrically and sonically toward a sound that left Post-Grunge behind and moved the band towards the realm of Modern Rock.

Nickelback had a hit-single bonanza with 2005 album All The Right Reasons which produced five Top 20 hits. Nickelback’s “Photograph” became the music hit of 2005 and was stuck to radio playlists and video channels. Nickelback also began setting records for mp3 downloads and other digital media and are seen as one of the biggest acts to truly launch the digital wave.
