The Blue Man Group remains an enigma to those who are unfamiliar with their style.
Although they appear quite alien, the members of the Blue Man Group are not extraterrestrial but rather the personification of naïveté, a ‘tabula rasa’ in blue face paint.

The trio of mute blue-faced performers creates experimental music with a variety of unorthodox instruments, including a PVC pipe and a custom Blue Man Group instrument called a ‘drumulum’, among others. While working as caterers in Manhattan, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton began to appear on the streets of New York in ‘Blue Man’ gear. They performed for passersby until an artistic director at a local club saw their work and helped them produce a full-length show. Their success followed, and the blue trio soon opened up venues in Boston, then Chicago, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and many other cities. In 1991, the Blue Man Group debuted with their first full-length show titled, “TUBES”. The following year, the Blue Man Group won an award for “TUBES” during the Lucille Lortel Awards which showcases excellence in off Broadway theatre.

The Blue Man Group may seem like they are from another planet but the Blue Man Group has done numerous collaborations with more worldly artists. In 2005 they worked with composer John Powell on the score for the animated Pixar film “Robots”. For fans of harder rock and roll they made a single with front man Gavin Rossdale from post-grunge English rock group “Bush”. After signing with Lava Records, a sister company to Atlantic, Blue Man Group did numerous other collaborations with artists such as Tracy Bonham, Dave Matthews, and Dan the Automator. In 2003, Blue Man Group’s song “White Rabbit” was released, featuring singer/songwriter Esthero. Starting in October 2008, the Blue Man Group will begin a six-month European theatrical tour starting in Basel, Switzerland and continuing on through Spain, France, and Austria.
