Dan Henderson: Wrestling

Much like champions Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture, Dan Henderson got his start in fighting sports with traditional wrestling. A star wrestler in the state of California, Dan Henderson excelled at both the freestyle and Greco-Roman styles of wrestling. After dominating the NJCAA ranks, Dan Henderson moved on to the Arizona State Sun Devils where he won several NCAA tournaments.

After college, Dan Henderson joined Team USA for the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. Teammate to the iconic wrestler Kurt Angle, Dan Henderson was overshadowed by the 1996 Olympic gold medalist even though he did well in international competition. Instead of following Kurt Angle to the WWE, however, Dan Henderson focused on the growing sport of mixed martial arts. Still viewed by many as an underground sport, UFC tickets were rare and American opportunities were few so Dan Henderson headed to the MMA capital of the world, Brazil.

Dan Henderson: MMA

After a year of training in MMA, Dan Henderson made a huge splash in Brazil by winning the Brazil Open 97, an elite heavyweight tournament. Fans with UFC tickets got their first glimpse of Dan Henderson as he went on to win the Middleweight Tournament at UFC 17. Dan Henderson's time in UFC was short-lived, and he flew across the Pacific to the burgeoning MMA scene in Japan. Dan Henderson again proved to be clutch in a tournament as he blew through five opponents, including future rival Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, to win the RINGS King of Kings Tournament.

Dan Henderson: PRIDE

Fans with UFC tickets were not happy to see Dan Henderson jump to Japanese competitor PRIDE FC, but Henderson did gain a whole new audience. He was handed his first defeat in MMA action against Brazilian street fighter Wanderlei Silva in a match of the classically trained athlete vs. the club fighter. As a welterweight in PRIDE, Dan Henderson would face the best fighters that the international circuit had to offer, and he defeated many. Dan Henderson's rivalry with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira continued in PRIDE where the American was defeated twice by the Brazilian's famous arm bar.

Dan Henderson gained the PRIDE Welterweight Title with a win over Murilo Bustamante. As he continued to protect his new PRIDE title, Dan Henderson also set his sights on loftier goals. After putting on weight, Dan Henderson got his revenge on "The Axe Murderer" Wanderlei Silva with a thundering punch that dropped the Brazilian to the mat for the Middleweight gold. Dan Henderson became the first fighter in MMA history to hold two different weight-class belts simultaneously. PRIDE soon went out of business, but their loss was the gain of fans with UFC tickets as Dan Henderson signed with UFC.

Dan Henderson: UFC 93

Upon entering UFC, Dan Henderson was thrown right into the lion's den with two-straight title matches. Facing Quinton Jackson and Anderson Silva back to back took its toll, and Dan Henderson lost both matches by a hair. Fans with UFC tickets did not give up on Dan Henderson, and he rewarded them with a win over Rousimar Pahares. With that winning feeling back, Dan Henderson was ready to face his next challenge.

Fans with UFC tickets were excited to see that Dan Henderson will face former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland. A title may not be on the line, but both will be competing for a chance to coach the American team on the TV show The Ultimate Fighter 9. UFC 93 offers fans with UFC tickets a rare opportunity to see the action of the Ultimate Fighting Championship in an international setting. UFC 93 tickets featuring Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin are sure to be the hottest tickets in sports for 2009.
