In his senior year, Kendrick Perkins was selected to the 2003 McDonald’s All-American Game. Kendrick Perkins led the Ozen High basketball team to four-straight District championships and one state championship. Kendrick Perkins was poised to be an even bigger star in the NBA.

Although Kendrick Perkins originally planned to attend University of Memphis after he graduated in 2003, the NBA was calling. Kendrick Perkins made the jump from high school straight to the NBA. In the 2003 NBA Draft, The Memphis Grizzlies scooped up Kendrick Perkins as the No. 27 pick in the first round before dealing the young center and Marcus Banks to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones.
