Frank Mir: Born to Fight
Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1979, Frank Mir III was literally raised around martial arts. Frank Mir’s father was a master of boxing and the rare form of Karate known as Kenpo. Frank Mir learned the hard way to fight, and his father’s students pulled no punches. Frank Mir boasts a crooked jaw from a sparring contest, and he wears the old injury with pride. Frank Mir’s family bought UFC tickets to the first-ever UFC event, UFC 1. Frank Mir and his father were in awe, and Frank Mir knew he wanted to be a UFC fighter.
The biggest inspiration that Frank Mir picked up from UFC 1 was the fighting style of Royce Gracie. The small MMA legend defeated opponent after opponent using his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Frank Mir II told his son to start training in wrestling to supplement his Kenpo and boxing. Frank Mir excelled at wrestling and won a State Championship, but he knew that he had to master Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to make it in MMA.
Frank Mir: MMA & BJJ
Frank Mir dedicated himself to reaching the big time, and living in Las Vegas enabled Frank Mir to get UFC tickets whenever he needed to soak up some inspiration. Frank Mir earned the elusive black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under heralded master Ricardo Pires and got his in with the MMA community by a chance meeting with Joe Silva. Frank Mir found his mat skills and lifetime of training to be very advantageous over the fighters of smaller MMA programs and quickly found himself a spot in UFC after an impressive submission victory at UFC 34.
Frank Mir: UFC
Frank Mir was an instant favorite of fans with UFC tickets as the large fighter quickly became known as a brutal submission expert with nearly limitless toughness. In his second UFC match, it took Frank Mir less than a minute to make his opponent tap out. An early defeat in his career did nothing to derail the momentum of Frank Mir, and he continued to be a nightmare to any opponent he faced. Frank Mir became virtually undefeatable on the mat and defeated fighters like Tank Abbott and Wes Sims easily.
Fans with UFC tickets gained even more respect for Frank Mir when he broke the arm of Tim Sylvia with an arm bar and won the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship. A devastating motorcycle accident was the only thing that could take the title from Frank Mir, and many worried that his career was over. Even with two serious leg injuries from the accident, Frank Mir showed his toughness in returning only a year and a half after the accident. It took Frank Mir a while to adjust to his return, but his slow start was quickly a memory.
Frank Mir: UFC 92
Frank Mir returned to contention for the UFC Heavyweight Title when he handed the athletic freak Brock Lesnar his first loss with a first-round submission. Fans with UFC tickets were glad to see the submission expert back to his original form, and they knew that Frank Mir wanted the title that he never lost, the UFC Heavyweight Championship. The only man standing in his way now is interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria and UFC 92 in Las Vegas, Nevada was set as the place for the title contest.
