Rapper T.I. was born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. on September 25, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia. The southern rap star released his first album I’m Serious in 2001 on Arista Records. Despite appearances by the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams and reggae singer Beenie Man, I’m Serious failed to sell well enough for Arista, and the label dropped T.I. from its roster.
Undeterred by Arista’s rejection, T.I. created Grand Hustle Records along with manager Jason Geter. With distribution by Atlantic Records, T.I. released his second album Trap Muzik in 2003. The album debuted at No. 4 and featured the singles “24s,” “Rubberband Man” and “Let’s Get Away.” Trap Muzik also features appearances by hip-hop artist Kanye West and rapper David Banner.
T.I.’s next album Urban Legend hit No. 1 on the Rap Albums chart and featured guest appearances by Lil Jon, Lil Kim, Lil Wayne and Nelly. In 2006, T.I. earned his first No. 1 record and Grammy nomination for King. The album featured the singles “What You Know,” “Why You Wanna” and “Ride with Me.”
