A couple of demos, surprise-filled piñatas, and a slot opening for Oasis were enough to get major record labels wrapped up in a bidding war for the band, Third Eye Blind. In the end, the band inked a deal with Elektra Records and released its self-titled, debut album in 1997. Single “Semi-Charmed Life” peaked at the No. 1 on the Mainstream and Modern Rock charts. A string of hits followed in “Graduate,” “How’s It Going to Be,” “Losing a Whole Year,” and “Jumper,” and helped Third Eye Blind sell millions of copies worldwide.
With the success of its debut album, Third Eye Blind snagged opening slots during U2’s PopMart Tour. In 1999, the band released its second album Blue, which spawned a handful of successful singles, including “Anything,” “Never Let You Go,” “10 Days Late,” and “Deep Inside of You.” Third Eye Blind embarked on an extensive touring schedule, selling tons of concert tickets in countries across the globe, before taking a breather from the road.
In 2003, Third Eye Blind’s album Out of the Vein dropped and produced the singles “Blinded” and “Crystal Baller.” Although Out of the Vein did not sell as well as Third Eye Blind or Blue, fans support of 3EB did not waver. The Within Arm’s Reach Tour allowed fans to see the band in more intimate clubs and smaller venues nationwide.
Fans are counting down the days until 3eb’s fourth album Ursa Major is released in 2009.
