The kings of college rock, Dave Matthews Band, have been topping the charts since 1991. The South-African singer, songwriter, and guitarist Dave Matthews mixes catchy vocals with guitars, keyboards, and horns that produce a unique style that closely resembles Jazz Fusion in many ways. Dave Matthews forged his band from a local collection of Jazz musicians in Virginia. Together, the Dave Matthews Band (also known as DMB) released indie albums Remember Two Things and Recently. Word of mouth, tape trading, and a strong local fan base spread the fame of Dave Matthews Band beyond Virginia leading to their first commercial album Under the Table and Dreaming, which produced radio hits with “What Would You Say,” “Satellite,” and “Ants Marching.”
Follow up Crash would go seven times platinum thanks to singles “So Much to Say” and “Tripping Billies.” Before These Crowded Streets soared to No. 1 on the charts, despite the album’s slightly darker tone than the usual happy Dave Matthews Band fare. Everyday was the next studio album that spawned hits “I Did It” and “The Space Between.” Dave Matthews Band released another studio album Stand Up in 2005 with “Dreamgirl” being the single of note.
Dave Matthews Band has released 11 live albums and launched countless concert tours on the reputation and skill of the band’s electrifying live play. 2009 saw Dave Matthews Band continue its prolific recording schedule with platinum album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.
