About Orlando Magic

Like the epic of Shaq a decade before, the Orlando Magic lost their centerpiece big man to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012. Trading away Dwight Howard for many picks and a few young players, the Orlando Magic took short-term pain for long-term gain. The 20-64 season was a painful one, but it did result in the discovery of many potential stars on the cusp of a breakout, not to mention the second-overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Now with some new toys and a wide-open Southeast Division, the Orlando Magic are ready to make some noise in 2013.

Center Nicolai Vulcevic stepped into the big shoes of Dwight Howard in 2012 and showed flashes of greatness. Seen as a superstar-in-the-making, Nicolai Vulcevic is a piece to build around. SG Arron Afflalo came on as a tough defender and perimeter shooter and was the Magic’s best player. F Tobias Harris came out of nowhere to be a threat in the frontcourt and has earned national praise. Rookie G Victor Olidepo can play either point or shooting guard, and could start opposite Arron Afflalo. Maurice Harkless is a good multi-position player can has loads of potential.

Since the 2007-08 season, the Orlando Magic were the unquestioned leaders of the Southeast Division, that was until LeBron James and Chris Bosh brought their talents to South Beach anyways. Though the Miami Heat dominate the division, there is plenty of room for the Orlando Magic to grow in the otherwise weak Southeast. The Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats should provide little competition, while the once-elite Atlanta Hawks are rebuilding.

Second-year head coach Jacque Vaughn will certainly have a challenge on his hands, but if he can master the gifted youths under his charge, then he can certain nab crucial wins. As the Magic schedule yet another exciting playoff run, ticketholders can catch the Orlando Magic on the road and at home inside Amway Arena.
