About Aretha Franklin

Born in March 25, 1942, Aretha Franklin began her music career at an early age. Aretha Franklin released her first album entitled Songs of Faith at the tender age of 14. Songs of Faith was recorded live at her father’s church, featuring his sermons in the background. Aretha Franklin transitioned from the gospel-based sounds of her beginnings and signed under Columbia Records in 1960 as a jazz-pop artist. Under Columbia, Aretha Franklin produced the charted “Today I Sing The Blues”.

Aretha Franklin left Columbia Records and joined Atlantic Records where she produced her first major hit “I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You”, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts. The release of Aretha Franklin’s next song “Respect” solidified her place as a superstar in the music world. The track “Respect” won Aretha her two Grammy awards and the song has been placed fifth on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of all time.

Following the release of her debut album, Aretha Franklin’s musical career spawned hit after hit.  In the decade to follow, Aretha Franklin produced smash hits “Think”, “The House That Jack Built”, “Call Me”, “Spanish Harlem”, “Don’t Play That Song”, and a cover of Dionne Warwick’s “I Say a Little Prayer”. In 1972, Aretha Franklin recorded Amazing Grace which became the best-selling gospel album of all time.

Following a hiatus, Aretha Franklin signed with Arista Records where she produced the major hits “(Giving Him) Something He Can Feel” and “Freeway of Love”. In 1998, Aretha Franklin released the highly successful album A Rose Is Still A Rose. Under her own label Aretha Records, Aretha Franklin is currently working on her latest album set for release in 2008.
