About Moody Blues

On the heels of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the world at-large would soon be overwhelmed by the British Invasion of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the 1960s. While some would follow these well-worn steps, other bands would take the sound in a totally new direction known as Psychedelic Rock. Spearheading this genre in Britain and later the world was the Moody Blues. As their name indicates, they started as a Blues-Rock band. After a failed record deal, the Moody Blues rolled the dice on a new sound that incorporated Classical Music and acid-tinged imagery.

While the Moody Blues where still finding their sound and classic lineup, they charted the biggest single of their careers, “Go Now”, in 1964. The Moody Blues stuck with his Blues-Rock sound for a few albums, but would never match the success of “Go Now”. Experimenting with Classical Music, prolonged instrumental pieces, and trippy lyrics, the Moody Blues discovered their niche in Psychedelic Rock. The first album to capture this sound was the brilliant concept record Days of Future Passed. Single “Nights in White Satin” was an international hit, and laid the groundwork for the coming of Progressive Rock.

Moody Blues would never be a band based on singles; instead it focused solely on producing well-spun albums. The late 1960s and early 1970s saw the Moody Blues on the forefront of Psychedelic and Progressive Rock, with albums like In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream,, and To Our Children’s Children’s Children. This quartet of albums helped “Prog Rock” emerge from the pack of 1960s and 70s Rock, creating an audience for the likes of Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Refining Psychedelic and Acid Rock, redefining the concept album, and creating a legion of followers in the music world, the Moody Blues are one of the greatest unsung bands of all time. The Moody Blues have undergone a slew of lineup changes and hiatuses over the decades, but still put out the same quality of creative output, including recent hit album December. Led by musical savant Justin Hayward, the Moody Blues will tour in 2012. Don’t miss these Prog Rock pioneers live when you order your Moody Blues tickets from OnlineTIckets.com today!
