About Muse

Muse was founded in Devon, England, in 1994 by guitarist and vocalist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard. After winning a local battle of the bands contest, Muse decided to take their musical career seriously. Muse’s second EP Muscle Museum caught the attention of BBC Radio One personality Steve Lamacq, which landed the band much needed airplay.

While British record labels were reluctant to sign Muse due to Radiohead comparisons, American record companies were not so shy, allowing Muse to sign to Maverick Records in 1998. Muse released their first album Showbiz the following year. The album’s success landed Muse a gig opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters in 2000. In 2001, Muse released Origin of Symmetry, which went on to sell over 1 million albums worldwide. Muse released Absolution in 2003 on Mushroom Records. Absolution proved to be Muse’s big breakthrough record in the U.S. with the hit singles "Stockholm Syndrome," “Time Is Running Out” and “Hysteria.”

Absolution’s success led Muse to sign with Warner Bros. This enabled Muse to tour in the U.S. and abroad. Muse released a live DVD called Manic Depression in 2005. In 2006, Muse’s fourth album Black Holes & Revelations peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and at No. 1 in England. The album earned a nomination for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize, which honors top-selling British acts. The album featured the singles “Starlight” and “Knights of Cydonia.”

Muse’s unique sound and excellent live show made them in-demand headliners and were seen by bigger as perfect touring partners. Muse got their name out to the masses internationally when they toured with U2 on their 360 Tour. After years of non-stop touring, Muse dropped album The 2nd Law in 2012, their biggest debut yet. Spending a year touring Europe, Muse will return to the United States in 2013, to tour and to play the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
